When two pilots want to talk to each other they use their aerial pseudonym (which sometimes is not that ‘pseudo’).

Spitznamen beziehen sich oft auf eine unserer Eigenheiten, die nur in einem bestimmten Umfeld zum Vorschein kommt. Unter Berufskollegen heissen wir vielleicht anders als auf dem Sportplatz, weil ein anderer Teil des Egos den Ton angibt.

Es war ein verrückter Flug gewesen, phantastisch, deprimierend, mega cool, frustrierend, hinreissend und inspirierend. Ich hatte gejubelt und gesungen, gezweifelt und gerungen, war geflogen wie in Trance und um mein Leben.
Und dann habe ich eine Story darüber geschrieben.

So mega cool, so depressing, so terrifying and frustrating, so entrancing and exhilarating that I wrote a story about it.

Clouds – nothing but condensed humidity?
For a (glider) pilot they are much more: they are messenger and message in one. They invite him to experience wonder and excitement, they confront him with terror, occasionally, and in the course of all that they might even tell him a little bit about himself.
